About

Hi, I'm Chris Prime.

I'm a game designer in Virginia. I published my first game in 2025, I co-host a monthly playtesting meetup, and I run Geekery Tabletop.

How I got here

I grew up on card games: Cribbage, Pinochle, and just about everything else you can play with a standard deck, plus the usual board and party games. Magic: The Gathering hooked me in 1996 and never fully let go.

I found the hobby side of gaming around 2015, when some friends brought out Catan on New Year's Eve. It was obvious that night that there was a whole world of games I'd never seen, and I've been exploring it ever since.

Designing and playtesting

I started designing games 2 years ago. My first, Venusian Vegas: The Card Game, is self-published, and it debuted at the PAX Unplugged Indie Games Night Market in 2025.

For over a year I've co-hosted a monthly Break My Game meetup in Virginia. Designers bring their prototypes, and the table plays them and tells them what's broken. It's a monthly reminder of how much of a game lives in its rulebook.

The day job

By day I'm an ERP consultant. I've worked across most of IT along the way: systems and network administration, software development, security, auditing, database programming, data integrations, reporting, and system implementations and migrations. Geekery Tabletop is where that background meets the hobby.

How the work gets done

Geekery Tabletop's services use AI tools that I built and tested on my own game first (the sample reviews and the Board Game Arena build on this site are all Venusian Vegas). They handle the repetitive parts: checking a rulebook line by line, and writing the code for a digital version. They don't make art, they don't rewrite your rules, and every decision about your game stays with you.

Outside of games

I live in Virginia with my wife of 20 years, our 3 kids, and Heiser, our service dog, who works in healthcare alongside my wife.
